A Nice Hyaluronic Acid Serum: Ulta Beauty’s 1.5% Serum

2 Mins read

Hyaluronic acid serums are a popular staple product in many people’s skincare routines; due to the claims about hyaluronic acid’s ability to hold and retain water. With so many serums available, many are sold at various price points. One of the most popular hyaluronic acid serums is The Ordinary’s Hyaluronic Acid 2%+ B5 serum. The Ordinary’s hyaluronic acid serum is one of the most affordable hyaluronic acid serums available. However, today we are talking about Ulta Beauty’s 1.5% Hyaluronic Acid Serum.

About the Hyaluronic Acid Serum

The Ulta Beauty 1.5% Hyaluronic Acid Serum comes in a 1-ounce plastic container with a plunger. The product comes out clear in a gel consistency. In addition to two different molecular weight hyaluronic acids, the product has other active ingredients.

  • Glycerin- A low molecular weight humectant that can penetrate beneath the stratum corneum. It can also pull actives into the dermis with it.
  • Niacinamide- A vitamin B derivative that behaves like an anti-oxidant. It reduces inflammation and neutralizes free radicals in the skin, leading to aging.
  • Tocopherol- Vitamin E is an antioxidant that reduces inflammation. It can neutralize free radicals in the skin that can lead to aging.
  • Palmitoyl Tetrapeptide-10 -A peptide that moisturizes the skin. It is marketed as anti-aging because it reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Things That I Loved:

  • So I really liked the consistency of this hyaluronic acid serum. It was not runny, but it was also not so thick that it was hard to spread. The Ordinary’s serum is more of a liquid, whereas this is a gel.
  • I like that it included two types of hyaluronic acid. A high molecular weight, hydrolyzed hyaluronic acid, and a low molecular weight, sodium hyaluronate. This means that you’re getting hydration at multiple layers of the skin from the hyaluronic acid and water. It is documented that smaller hyaluronic acid molecules, sodium hyaluronate, can penetrate your dermis like glycerin.

  • I also liked that in addition to the hyaluronic acid, it also included vitamin E and niacinamide. Having a skincare routine with a lot of steps can be overwhelming. Any product that combines steps is always nice to me. It’s worth noting that vitamin E, tocopherol is one of the last ingredients on the ingredients list. So the likelihood that you’ll get a lot of antioxidant functionality out of the vitamin E in this product is low, but it is still present.

Things to be Mindful Of:

  • This product did have fragrance/perfume. Additionally, there were some floral extracts that were probably included to scent the product. If you are sensitive to fragrance, this might not be your product.

  • The price. The Ordinary’s hyaluronic acid + B5 serum has become a gold standard for affordable hyaluronic acid serums. The Ordinary’s serum is $7.50. However, the Ulta Beauty serum is almost three times the price at $19.50. Both products come in a one once container. However, Ulta Beauty often has sales, especially for their Ulta brand products. So you could probably easily find the serum at a lower price. As someone who is not sensitive to fragrance, I think the scent made the experience a bit nice. However, I do not believe this justifies an additional $12.

All in all, this was a lovely-smelling hyaluronic acid serum. It got the job done of making my skin feel very hydrated. It is a little bit more expensive than The Ordinary’s serum, and I did not see that much of a difference between the two products’ performance to recommend spending the additional $12 on the Ulta beauty 1.5% hyaluronic acid serum. However, if you want a change and looking for a new hyaluronic acid serum, this is a worthwhile serum to try.
